Once again, I've been missing, but I promise I've till been in action. With the ACL tear and having to take things slowly, it's been a challenge just doing everyday things, let alone blogging. Ok, I've been sidelined with an injury and surgery for quite some time. I know some have wondered where I disappeared to. I assure you, I'm still alive, and I've even managed to get some work done. It's been rough these past couple months, but I'm getting better, thanks to my loving wife, and a visit from my mom.

I wanted to post these bridal shots a long time ago, but the bride did not want her groom to see her wedding dress before the wedding day! She is absolutely beautiful. Her wedding was this past weekend so I have the "green light" to post these photos.

I have so much other work to post and catch up on, so please come back. Now that I'm doing better, I'll start posting again. Thanks for your patience!

Sometimes I forget that I have two perfectly great models in my own house! Actually one is perfectly willing, and the other one does whatever he wants. I was lucky enough that the second was interested enough on this day to keep still and pose! Hahaha! My boys were born with a camera in their face. I'm so glad they don't mind. What a great trip to DC! Although it was hot and humid, I had the best time photographing this beautiful couple! I couldn't have asked for a more handsome couple to work with! I had an opportunity to spend some time eating ice cream, bowling, and just hanging out with the groom, and "the guys".

While I was in Los Angeles, I had a chance meeting with this wonderful couple! They happened to be looking for a photographer to help them with their engagement photos!. I was excited because they had some terrific ideas for locations in LA. We decided to meet at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA. It was so awesome. I got there a little early and walked the grounds, and I was amazed. I've never seen anything like it before! If you ever go to LA, it's worth the time to make a visit there!

Well, Veronica and Spencer thought of everything, and we had such a great time! I could tell they put a lot of thought into what they had envisioned. We were able to get so many different types of photos, and I'm very excited to share them!

Since we have two little boys, it's been a lot harder for my wife to accompany me on most of my shoots. She loves photography, and any chance she gets, she loves to get out and shoot! Amazing looking couple! I swear I luck out with the best looking people to photograph! Meet Kristyn and Tony. Tony is a buddy of mine from a long time ago when I used to work at Red Lobster. I was so happy to hear from him when he said he was engaged. I was even happier for him after I met his fiance, Kristyn. She's a beautiful person, inside and out.

We had a great photo session. These two really made it easy. Didn't have to do much coaching or telling them to get closer. It was a great time, and I'm really looking forward to their wedding day! Congrats you two!

By the way, the shooting conditions on this day were the exact opposite from the last shoot I had. Instead of a clear blue sky, and more sunshine than you ever want to shoot in, things were completely different. This weird Utah weather is really playing tricks on us. It was almost a little too overcast, and we had a nice little window of time to shoot without any rain. It was great, and I'm happy. Just roll with whatever comes your way!

Rashida & Benson Part II:: Utah Wedding Photographer

I had an engagement shoot with this couple a few months back, and it was freezing out, so we also scheduled a springtime shoot so we get a few more shots with a different look! We originally planned on going into the Provo Canyon and getting some nice shots at Bridal Veil falls, but we got there and it was closed to the public. Always have a backup plan. That's where my wife is so good. She mentioned a place that we checked out a few months ago, so we headed there!

Before we got there, I already knew the shoot was going to be a challenge. Noon day sun, and not a cloud in the sky. A challenge for me, or any photographer. Those conditions are not normally my ideal setting. No shady spots for even lighting. Just plain old bright sunlight! Anyways, with some creative thinking and assistance from my wife, and our new lighting assistant, Ben, we were able to get some shots that I think really turned out nice!

Next photos you see of these two, will be from their wedding day! Congrats you two, and thanks for the donuts! Thanks Ben for helping with the lighting. You're hired!

Kathy & Josh:: Utah Wedding Photographer

As a wedding photographer, naturally I'm around a lot of newly married couples! It's always interesting to see how they interact, but it's always great to see how they look at each other. I love to see how in love couples are when I tell them to look into each others eyes, or give each other a kiss. It was very apparent to me, while shooting this couple, how much they adored one another!

I had a fantastic time at this wedding. I was joined by two amazing fellow photographers, Aubrey and Sepa. If you know the two of them, than you can just imagine how much fun we had! At most weddings, I'm invited to have something to eat. It's just one of the perks of the job! Anyways, the food at this wedding was amazing! I even got a couple "to go" boxes so I could share with my wife and kids!

Hawaii- Days 5, 6 &7

Well, the past 3 days passed by so fast! I was able to make a quick post on day 1 of the competition, but our schedule was so crazy on the 2nd and 3rd day. I was barely able to stay awake by the time we got back to our hotel.

Great news! Our group won first place in 3 out of the 4 major categories they entered, and 2nd in the other! There were also a lot of individual winners in the solo competitions! Overall, our group from Japan was so happy. We had a banquet/party on the last night of competition to celebrate, and relax.

I was able to capture some great portrait shots of some of the ladies in the group. I also have some amazing photos of the competition. I'll be working on those later tonight, and I'm really excited to share them.

The first 3 ladies at the top of this post, are the group leaders, and instructors for this group in Japan. I've been so amazed at how well prepared and dedicated this whole group was! They deserved to win, and their hard work paid off. Spending the whole week with them, and practicing with them, we were able to form great friendships with a lot of them. I found myself cheering for them in all their events. I felt like I was cheering for a family member. We were so proud and happy for them as we watched them accept their first place trophies and prizes. I'm happy to have made some terrific friends!

Sorry! The 3 days of competition were so intense and busy. We were there all day, and had late dinners. By the time I got to my hotel room, I would lay down and crash out! I have more to blog about so stay tuned!

Hawaii- Day 4... sorry no post last night

Yesterday was the first day of competition, and it made for a very long day. On top of being the drummers for the Japanese group that hired us, we were also hired on to be the house drummers for the competition. Explanation for those not familiar with Tahitian Dance competitions.

There are a few different categories that people participate in. The group categories usually bring their own musicians/drummers. In our groups case, they hired musicians (us) to come and help them perform. The other part of the competition is the solo category. Since not everyone can bring their own drummers, they have what they call, house drummers. The house drummers will drum for each contestant. It's kind of like the "house band" on American Idol. The same band plays for each contestant singing.

Well, there were over 200 entries in the solo category, and even with them going 3 to 5 at a time, it made for a long day of drumming. We didn't have dinner until after the competition was done, around 8:30pm. Dinner took a little long, and by the time I got to the hotel, I was ready for a nice sleep!

It's almost 7am, and we have to be at the competition venue at 8am. I'm just going to make this a quick post. I'll try to get more later this evening. This photo is of the venue we're performing at. The Waikiki Shell! Sorry, I have no time to do any editing with the photo. I'll have more soon!

Hawaii- Day 3

I went for a walk right before practice today, and took photos of things that I saw, and tried to make them interesting. I wanted to challenge myself, since I mostly take photos of people. I love to make people look great. It's so hard to make inanimate objects come alive. It's not my specialty, but I figured, I'm in Hawaii, and if I can't find beauty in things around me here, than there is no hope for me. I did my best, and I'm willing to share with you.

The challenge is ever present. I see beauty all around me here, and it seems so hard for me to capture what I see in my mind, with the lens of my camera. I'll keep trying while I'm here, but I don't think I'll be making the switch from people, to landscapes and anything similar. I just love to capture emotions like joy, happiness, etc...

No food photos today. Dinner was pretty simple. Just a plate lunch from Zippy's. Although it was simple, it tasted so great! I guess I can take that approach with photography. Find beauty in the simple things!

Bonus Photos from Hawaii...

OK, so I give in. Had to share some of my dinner from last night. I thought I've eaten Japanese food before, but I found out last night, that I have no idea! I know it was good, because I was eating with actual people from Japan, and they were loving it!

I had a few things I've never eaten before in my life. Some things tasted great, and some things I had to politely "choke down". It was mainly the little side things that my taste didn't agree with. If you notice the little white stuff on my Salmon plate, it just had this aroma that I couldn't get over. I only barely tasted it and had to chase it with my diet coke. Unfortunately, once it touched my chopsticks, the smell was there, and I would catch it every once in a while, when I was trying to enjoy my salmon!

It was a full course meal, and for the most part I loved it. I had to get the broiled salmon. I loved the miso soup, and the sashimi. My dad got the sukiyaki plate. The beef, onions, egg, and sauce all went together so nicely. Pete had the Tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet). I think I saw it disappear in 10 seconds. Seriously, I've never been to Japan, but I'm thinking that this was pretty authentic.

I'm thinking no matter what, I'll blog about my daily meals, because, I'll admit that I just love food! While I'm here, I need to take advantage of all the food here, that I can't get in Utah!

Hawaii- Day 2

OK, so today's photos are focused on the actual reason I'm here, and what paid for my ticket, hotel, and all my food! LOL!

I mentioned already that I've been hired as a musician for a Japanese group that is competing here in Hawaii at a Tahitian Dance competition. Today was dress rehearsal, and I was able to sneak a few great shots! The costumes and dancing were all great! I've been very impressed with the way the group runs their practice so efficiently. They're also always smiling. I'm really enjoying working with them.

We had quite a long day of practice, and I didn't get much "tourist" time in. We did hit up a great Japanese restaurant tonight though. I'm still contemplating whether or not to post those photos. This isn't a food blog, and Japanese food is my wife's favorite. I don't want to risk making her feel like she's missing out. Hmmmm... maybe I'll just sleep on it! Good Night!

A couple bonus/random photos from Hawaii!

A couple things I've never seen before. A tin man with an attitude. Seriously, this guy refused to play anything while I was standing there. He was playing when I walked up, and when I took out my camera, he froze up on me. I even had a little tip ready for him! lol!

In the 2nd photo, I've seen these little birds everywhere before. Mostly in parking lots trying to get food. Normally, if you walk within 5 ft of them, they take off flying. I don't know how, but this guy, literally had them eating out of the palm of his hand!

Hawaii- Day 1

Ok, I'm dead tired, but I promised to blog daily, especially for my wife! Today was a great day. Scattered showers and tons of sunshine. I played tourist again during some of my down time!

I wanted to focus my photos on my dinner! It really made me miss my wife. When I first heard that we were going out for sushi, I wasn't sure if I should share this or not, because it's one of my favorite foods, especially sushi! This was one of those places where the plates rotate around on one of those conveyor belts, and you just pick up what you want. They count your plates at the end of your dinner, and the plates are color coded, and priced accordingly. It was a fun place to eat.

If you notice in the last 2 photos, there is one empty plate of sushi, and 2 pieces left on the other, in honor of my wife. She also loves Mochi ice cream, so I also saved her a piece of that too. I really wish she were with me tonight, but I hope she appreciates that I was thinking of her!

Anyways, I promise a different batch of photos tomorrow, but I really gotta get some sleep. Playing tourist really wore me out today! Goodnight!

Introduction to my 2010 Hawaii Trip

I promised my wife I would take a ton of photos. I figured I would blog daily, and post photos daily of my entire trip! Since I woke up so early, I decided to play "tourist". I guess I am, since I don't live here, and haven't been here since I was a teenager.

Went downstairs in the hotel, walked out to the street to take some photos of the hotel. I looked to my right, and to my surprise, I saw that the beach was about a block away! I took a little stroll and snapped a couple shots!

I'm only going to post one photo from this morning, because this is not the "official" Day 1 post yet. That will come later tonight after a full day of "photo ops"! Anyways, my morning was beautiful to say the least!

So here's my introduction to my Hawaii trip!

Well, I'm at my hotel in Hawaii. I'm here, not on a photography assignment, but for another passion of mine, music, and Tahitian drumming. I've been hired as a musician for a group from Japan competing here in Hawaii at a dance competition. They needed live musicians, so there are 3 of us from Utah, 1 from Florida (my dad), and 1 from California. I get to play some music, and drum for the group. All expense paid trips are always nice.

I've received a few emails from people asking if I might have any extra time for some photo shoots. I haven't made any promises yet, but I will know my schedule better after tomorrow. I hope to get some great photos while we're here. I'm really excited to be here, but I really miss my family! I'll try to post photos daily!

OK, I'm almost caught up. I just wanted to post a few photos from what I'm working on right now! Can you believe it? We had the heavens open in Seattle, and had a window of no rain for all the time we needed to take some great photos! Prayers do work, and it was a blessed day. Especially for the happy couple!

Ok, I've been to Washington State a few times before, but never really did any sightseeing. My wife encouraged me to make good use of my free day while I was there and be a "tourist". Thanks to my good friends that were hosting me, I didn't actually have to find my around by myself! I got the VIP treatment while I was there and I had a great time!

A lot of times when I go checking out things, I forget to bring out the camera. It was impossible to not want to take photos of all the interesting things I saw. I had so many photos running through my head as I took in the whole atmosphere.

I really wanted to check out the fish market that I've seen on TV a few times before. Sorry I didn't get a great photo of the "flying fish". The whole downtown area of Seattle is amazing. So much diversity and culture. I loved my whole trip to Seattle, but I missed my family so much. I need to take them next time!

Enjoy some of these photos. Keep in mind that these photos really don't match my strengths or style of photography. Never the less, I love some of these photos! I love Seattle! Actually, everywhere I went while I was there was beautiful. It's a place I wouldn't mind living some day!

I really enjoy telling a story with photos! I believe the story at this wedding is so easy to see, especially on the faces of the beautiful bride and handsome groom! I took Nikki's bridal photos a little while back. We had such a great time and I've been looking forward to this wedding day ever since!

Everything was perfect on this day! Nikki and Dan seem perfect for each other too! I truly enjoy photographing weddings. I enjoy the people I meet, the photos I capture, and the "sweets" I get to take home to my kids! The photos can't do this candy table justice! Believe me, it was a candy paradise. The goodie table was amazing as well!

I'm a huge fan of "In the moment" photography. It's a good thing too, because trying to get these 2 little guys to stay in one spot for more than 2 minutes is nearly impossible. I had so much fun with the Atuaia family.

The sun seems to be setting so early lately. Starting family photo shoots earlier in the afternoon makes scheduling a little more challenging, but we finally nailed down a time that worked. It also happened to be the last day of "decent" weather here in Utah. Every day after this shoot has been so cold, and even a little snow, so we we're lucky to get this done!

I love the candid shots from this shoot. Capturing these moments and looking at them later when I'm editing always makes me smile!

Easiest Family Photos Ever! :: Anaheim, California Family Photographer

Truthfully, this really was one of the easiest family photo shoots ever! All of my subjects were very cooperative, and needed no coaching to look at the camera! LOL!

These are the kids of my dad's cousin Seleana! I don't think I've met a nicer group of kids. Very willing to ham it up for the camera, and give me their best smiles! Very well behaved. Must have some good parenting! It always makes it easier!

I really enjoyed meeting more of my dad's family, and taking their photos. Aren't they some good looking teens! Thanks for the great shoot guys! Hope to see you again soon!

Meet my cousin Tolu and her family! It was so nice to be able to see them on our trip to California! I first met Tolu when we were about 7 or 8 yrs old. Her family visited us in Florida. I remember walking with her to the store and buying some candy! I also remember thinking "Wow, her mom looks a lot like my dad", lol! Up to that point I didn't have a ton of memories of meeting my dad's side of the family because I was so young, and they were mostly still in Samoa or Hawaii. I mostly just remembered my grandparents, so meeting Tolu was a lot of fun for me.

Through the years I've been able to meet more of the family at reunions and weddings. It's even easier now with Facebook and the internet! I was very happy to spend a little time with her family, but we definitely need to plan for more time on my next trip. Still thinking about the good food I probably missed at the house!

What a great looking family! I had a great time, and the location was more than perfect! Great choice Tolu! Thanks for having us!!

Yes, they are twins! They've grown up so much. We took their photos for Christmas last year, and they were so cute back then, but they've grown even cuter now, since they can run around and show off their personalities!

These 2 were so full of energy, and just loved chasing the ducks! We had so much fun seeing them again, and we look forward to even more fun next year!

Here we go! I have some mini photo sessions to post from our trip to California! We had a great time there and the weather was great! Well, it was great for us, but everyone in California, it was cold! LOL! It was t-shirt and shorts weather for us, but for them, it was time to bring out the coats and layered clothing!

In the photos above, you'll notice that some kids just don't have to smile to be cute! There is no rule about that right? What a great spot for photos! It's always fun to visit with Jeane's brother Timo and his wife Kim and the boys! By the way, Kim is my personal hygienist in California! I hate going to the dentist, but Kim is always so good to me! I love taking engagement photos! It's a fun time to take photos of two people obviously in love and excited for their big day! This was such a fun shoot. From the very first shot, everything was so nice and easy. Chemistry was definitely there and I think that made it so easy going and fun!

We were able to shoot at the Gardens, and it was a beautiful setting. Honestly though, I could have taken their photos anywhere and these two would have looked great! The weather has been a little cold lately, but we lucked out with perfect weather and shooting conditions. It was meant to be!

Tali and Inoke were so much fun to take photos of, and I'm really looking forward to taking their wedding photos in December! It was so nice to have my wife shooting with me again, and paying attention to all the little details. Rina and Alvin joined us as well! We had a great time!

Probably the most fun I've had on a bridal photo shoot in a long time! Nikki is just one of those brides that is willing to do anything for "the shot"! Since she was willing to get down, dirty and wet, so was I! After the photo shoot, I got in my car with wet pants, and wet socks. I can tell you that it was well worth it! Once in a lifetime shots!

While we were shooting at the waterfalls, I overheard Nikki's mom talking to my wife and saying that Nikki is not someone you ever want to dare to do anything, because she will do it, and put you to shame. After our afternoon together, I believe it! I had so much fun!

Nikki has a rare combination of a fun spirit and beauty to match! She also had a great supporting cast there to help her with everything which always makes things easier. It was so great to have my wife along for the shoot again. It's been too long. She's the one I turn to when I run out of creative ideas, and she's paying attention to all the little details. Something I'm not great at. I found myself working my brain way to hard for the past little while in her absence! Now I can relax my brain a little and just shoot away, knowing that she's there to make sure everything looks just right! Aubrey also came along, which is always fun. Thanks for climbing with us and getting wet as well! Best assistance anyone could ask for!

It's always great when things work out just perfect when you're so worried because you have to make last minute changes. It was meant to be that we had our shoot the other day, and that we ended up where we did!

Back in Action!

Well, things are starting get back to normal, but still life is crazy busy! The baby is now 6 weeks old and we're getting used to him! Before the pregnancy, my wife would accompany me on most of my photo shoots and we would shoot together. It became a lot harder the farther she got into her pregnancy and I would find myself alone or shooting with another friend. I really did miss my wife and all the help she gave me!

Just last week, she said, I need to start shooting again. Of course I encouraged to go ahead and do it. She works with some of the young women at church and she had a planning meeting with them. She decided it would be a great way to get back in to the swing of things if she just took a few shots of the girls after their meeting.

My wife came home very excited about the photo shoot and started editing right away. I love the photos she took. I had nothing to do with any of these photos because I wasn't even there. She shot completely manual and had perfect exposures in her photos! I'm extra proud of her and look forward to having my partner back for upcoming photo shoots! Although the photos have my little logo on them, they should say "Photography by Jeane".

Great job, and Happy 4th Anniversary today! You're the best wife and mother in the world! I love you so much and consider myself the luckiest man ever!

I do have a lot of work I've been catching up on, but I also have a newborn that has required a lot of attention. At the same time I have a 2 year old that doesn't like to be left out, and a beautiful wife that I'm trying to make sure fully recovers from a C Section. All is well, but the blog has suffered.

Kids don't come any cuter than this! Cliff and Maile have some really cute kids! I spent about 20 minutes with the 3 older kids while they were getting ready for their photos, so we did magic tricks, played hot potato, and hit imiginary baseballs to China (I was cracking up with that one)!

I've know the Fano's for what feels like forever. Cliff and I used to live together with all "the boys" back in the day, so we have a lot of fun memories.

Life Happens!

So sorry about the lack of blog posts! Life has been a little crazy in our little home. We recently added a new little mouth to feed. Our son was born on August 17th. Little Elijah is beautiful little baby boy, and he's been the perfect addition to our home. His older brother Malachi loves to give him kisses and hold him!

Jeane is still on recovery road from a C section but I'm happy to report that she is doing well. Mommy loves her 2 little boys!

The boys have had visits from both sets of grandparents. Jeane's mom and dad were here the first week that Elijah was born. What a great blessing that was. Malachi did not suffer from any lack of attention. It seems that every time he went to a store, he got a brand new toy! Elijah got his fair share of the "loot" as well!

My parents were in town a week ago, and the "spoils" continued! Malachi really knows how to charm his grandparents, but I think my parents enjoy it anyways! The boys definitely have everything they need and more!

With all that has been going on, I still have a ton of work to catch up on. I have a lot of family sessions in the coming weeks. I am very grateful for all the well wishes for my family from friends!

Life happens, it keeps us busy, but life is definitely great right now! Photos to come soon!

What a great day! It started out a little scary. It was raining all morning! Actually it was raining til 1pm. At 11:30am my wife suggested we say a little prayer for a nice weather for the group shoot! I'm always up for some help from the heavens, and it usually seems to work. It definitely did. The gray skies went away, and never came back. We had very nice weather the whole time we were out shooting!

I had some very talented photographers come and we had a lot of fun getting to know each other, but also, really getting to know our cameras and "really" using them! We had a little discussion time for the first hour, and then I arranged for some of the most beautiful people I could find to show up and model for us! I split everyone up into little teams so they could all learn from each other. We had 3 one hour blocks for shooting each set of models! It was so fun to see everyone get to work, and let the creativity flow. I didn't get to shoot that much, because I was busy trying to go around and answer questions and make myself available for any assistance needed! I did get to snap a few shots, but I'm sorry I didn't get everyone!

We topped our day of shooting of with a home made spaghetti dinner and had more discussion and question and answer time. Omi showed up to the dinner and offered so much insight and information. We did a little photoshop, and before we knew it, the night was done. It went by so fast. We made new friends, strengthened existing relationships, and overall, had a terrific experience!

Please look forward to some great photos coming from those who came. We'll have a little photo contest, and you'll get to vote. I'll post that before the end of the week. Thanks so much to those who came. I really had a great time. Thanks to my very pregnant wife (also Deedee and Robin)who made sure it was well planned out, and for having dinner ready for us! My wife also made sure all the little things (that a guy would never do on his own), were taken care of!

I really look forward to having another group shoot and seeing great things from all who came! Photographers are some really great people! We had a few photographers that were not able to come due to last minute things, but we're looking forward to seeing you guys next time!

What do you get when you mix a former standout BYU Football player, and an athletic trainer? The perfect couple! Megan and Sete are meant for each other. Spending some time with them during their photo session, I could see how well they compliment each other's personalities!

I had to laugh when they apologized to me for playing around too much! LOL! It makes photographing them so much easier. I had a great time with these two, and I'm really looking forward to their wedding in Seattle this November!

The Midas Touch- Setema Gali

Midas or King Midas is popularly remembered for his ability to turn everything he touched into gold: the Midas touch! Have you ever known such a person? I do!

I've known Setema for a long time now. Can't believe we met over 10 years ago, when he shook my hand and gave me a smile. "You never know how much a smile and a handshake can do". Truer words were never spoken!

We met at BYU and have participated in so many different things together. Performed in various musical groups and it's always a good time with Setema! It seems that this man can do anything and everything. Not just do them, but do them really really well. As if he had the ability to turn anything in to gold. The only things not turned in to gold were the quarterbacks he would sack on the field in front of thousands of screaming BYU fans. After his college career, he was also part of the Superbowl winning Patriot Team in the NFL!

Now, he is a successful entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and business person who inspires so many to reach their potential. For fun, this guy can pick up just about any instrument and play you a song. He's part of an award winning band, Mana Poly All-Stars! Does it ever end with this guy? Apparently not!

What I respect most about this guy is his love for his family. Just watch this guy interact with his son and you will know he loves his family! He's married to his best friend, and together, they truly are a power couple. Endless possibilities and talent in this family.

I love California weddings! It's always great weather in Los Angeles. Brooke and Kahili are a very handsome couple. I've been looking forward to this wedding for a while. A little while back, Kahili contacted me about helping him find an engagement ring because I know the owner of a pretty nice local jewelery store. I had to keep it a secret for a little while, but I was happy to. I've had to do it on a few occassions for other expectant grooms!

Brooke's parents and family are very close friends of my wife's family. Jeane and I couldn't stop commenting on how well organized this wedding was. They gave us perfect amount of time for photos so we weren't rushing at all. They had food for everyone and drinks while we were getting photos done. It seems that every last detail was thought of and executed perfectly!

Kahili's family made a whole family trip from Hawaii to Disneyland... I mean the wedding. LOL! Might as well make the most of the whole trip, right? A real fun and nice family. They were hosting a reception in Hawaii as well. Wish I could have made it!

This was such a fun wedding! We love going to LA a few times each year in the summer for weddings! Congratulations to Brooke and Kahili! They're both attending BYU this fall. Go Cougars! Everything was great and thanks for having us be a part of your big day!

Actually, it's no surprise he likes apple juice. This is not news, he really loves to drink just about anything. He takes after me. I love ice cold drinks! His latest thing is water. He's always asking for water. He definitely takes after his mommy in that way. I don't like to drink water unless it's the only thing available!

Anyways, in the last few months, he has learned to open the fridge himself and grab one of "his" drinks! It's so nice to not have to get it for him all the time. It's also nice that he never goes and just opens the fridge to look inside and play with things. He also always remembers to close the door to the fridge too! We're really lucky with this kid. He's very low maintenance. Makes me nervous to think about what our next baby boy is gonna be like! We'll find out in about 5 weeks!

What an amazingly beautiful young couple! Since I make it my responsibility to make the couple look as beautiful as possible, they really made it easy on me! I don't know how much better looking you can get? Is it fair when every photo you take of a couple is your favorite?

It was also very easy to see that these two are very much in love! I had a great time interacting, and laughing with them, and it really made my day. When I got home and uploaded their photos, I couldn't stop saying WOW! I'm still saying it as I post these photos!

Sneak Peak... Lauren & Malosi

OK... seriously, my luck continues! Beautiful people make it much easier to take beautiful photos! These two make it look so effortless. Is it me, or is this bride absolutely glowing? I told Malosi that I don't often meet grooms who match how good looking the brides are, but he came close!

These two come from some great families! From what I've been told, they met in elementary school. He was her first boyfriend. The years passed, they went their separate ways. He served an LDS mission to NY. Came back, met up with her again, and that was it for him! By the way, the accent on "Lauren's" name comes on the second half, like "Ralph Lauren", or "Sophia Lauren". I kept making the mistake of pronouncing it the other way and sounding like an idiot! Sorry Lauren!

Anyways, these two have great things in store for them. Watch out for Malosi on the BYU football field! I hope he let's my son and I come cheer for him sometime! ;)!!

Michelle and Josh

I have the best luck! Michelle and Josh really are a handsome couple! Out of the 40+ weddings at the Salt Lake Temple on this day, I know for a fact that these two were the best of the bunch! It was also supposed to be raining on this day. In fact, it was pouring when I was driving up to meet them. As luck would have it for me (maybe more for Michelle and Josh), the sun came out, and we had perfect conditions for a perfect wedding and terrific photos!

I couldn't have been happier to work with Michelle and Josh. Makes my job so easy when people are great looking and photogenic! It even makes it seem likes it's not work at all! Just a click of the button on my camera, and magic happens! I'm so lucky!

Ok, having emailed and messaged most of you who are coming to the Group shoot, we've decided on having it on August 15th! I wanted to have it sooner but my wife wanted to make sure it was well planned and that we can really make it worth your time! Our baby is due on August 27th, and that's why I wanted it sooner, but when it comes down to it, she really is the boss.

The group spots are full, and I think we have just enough people to get plenty of learning and practice in. I wasn't able to fit everyone who emailed me and requested a spot, and I'm sorry. If this goes great then I promise to have another one! I just wanted to be sure that everyone who comes, really gets everything they can out of it! It takes a smaller number to accomplish this, but we'll see how this goes!

It's recently been brought to my attention that I need to blog more often. My wife has been telling me this for quite a while now, but it took a couple friends bringing it to my attention for me to make a better effort. Apologies to my wife for not listening to her, despite the fact that I know she is always right! ;)

Well, I've decided to be much better about blogging, and posting my recent work. I don't think it's going to be possible to post every photo shoot I do, but I will do my best. On occasion I do have clients that ask that I don't post their photos on the Internet, and I'll continue to honor those requests!

So, to start off with this new "effort", I thought I'd start off with a photo of this very handsome couple who got married yesterday! I just shot their photos, so I'm off with a bang. I have so much other work to finish as well. I'll have some more of their photos later, but I'll have some other blog posts in between!

For those who do read this blog and follow, thank you so much! I'm so appreciative of all the kind words, compliments, and support! I love photography, and I love creating beautiful memories for people. I'm also happy to share this part of my life.

Blue skies, 75 degrees, and a beautiful bride and groom! What more could you ask for? Picture perfect day for a great wedding! I love California weddings. I think I cover more weddings in LA than I do in Salt Lake? We're always looking for any reason to get out to some really nice weather!

Linzie and Tyler had a great wedding! Everything was perfect and their love for each other was obvious! So much support from their families, and an incredible love story. They met all the way across the world in Australia, at a friend's wedding! Funny how things work out when it's meant to be!

It's been on my mind a lot lately. I'm not really the type of person to put myself out there. I'm usually content with just doing my thing and following my passion with photography. It's mostly been a personal thing for most of my life. One day I met my wife, and it kind of changed from there.

When I met my wife, she asked me for a few tips on how to take better photos. I showed her a few things and helped her practice. We would take a look at the photos she took, discuss all the things we loved about them, and then talk about what she needed to improve on. She loved it, and has really embraced photography. I have come to love her style and eye for detail.

My wife has really been encouraging me to share this with others. Inspired by Omi's workshops and dinner developments, my wife really felt that I have a lot to share. I never put much stock into it. The first thought that comes to mind, "Would anyone really want to learn anything from me?", "Do I have anything to offer?", and "Am I good enough?". I guess these are all natural questions that we may all ask ourselves at some time or another.

Well, I've recently had a lot of inquiries from other photographers who want to come along and "shadow". I've allowed a few, but not all. Like I said, I'm more of a "private" photographer, but I'm always willing to share. As I thought about it, I realized how helpful it would have been to me to have had someone "show me the ropes". I shot my first wedding when I was 16. No real idea of what I was doing, but it turned out fine, and the clients were happy. How much easier would it have been to have someone tell me about things I need to do and watch out for.

Since I have been thinking about it, I've decided that I will put myself out there. If there is enough interest, I have some great ideas for a group photo shoot. In my mind, it's more than just a "teach". We're all artists, and have something to add. We can all learn from each other, and have a great time.

I have in mind to do a half day event. Having shot a ton of weddings in the past few years, obviously that's my specialty. I like the challenge of a wedding, but I'll get to that in a different post. I would love to share my knowledge of wedding photography, but I also want a few different scenarios. Engagements, Bridals, Fashion, Children, Family Photos, all of it. I have some models available, but first, I need to know if there is any interest. There are a lot of photographers out there. Even if it's not your desired profession, and you just want to learn how to take better photos of your kids and family. Maybe you want to learn how to use this nice camera you just bought.

My vision would be to have a group that comes together to learn and share, rather than just come and listen to me. I love learning situations and gaining more knowledge from others experiences, and perspectives. The price of this "Group Shoot" is still to be determined. The cost would be minimal. Just need to compensate the models. It's not something I'm looking to make money from. At least not at this point. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how much interest there is.

Here is the question, "Anyone interested?"! Please post if you are. If there isn't much interest, than I'll continue doing what I do, but if there is... there is a lot do be done, and a lot to be learned by all!! I'm also open to suggestions and any ideas.

My favorite kid in the World!

I hardly have any posts on this blog with photos of my favorite kid in the whole world! This is my son Malachi! He is 2 yrs. old, he loves trains, and cars. He likes to watch "Bolt", "Finding Nimo", "Cars", and "The Incredibles". He knows his alphabet pretty good, and he loves to eat cheese.

We have a million photos of this kid (as do most parents of their own kids). He is always a willing subject and has learned to love the camera too! When he was about 9 months old, we saw that he learned how to smile for the camera.

Our son has brought so much joy into our lives, and he teaches us so much. This kid really, really, really loves his mommy! They are so close! When he wakes up in the morning, first thing out of his mouth is "mommy", and then he says "eat?".

For now, he is my favorite kid in the world, but we're expecting boy #2 at the end of August, so they'll have to share that title. There is plenty of love to go around!

I believe this couple had all the ingredients to a fairytale wedding! The Bride: Nervous but beautiful and stunning! The Groom: Tall, dark and handsome, but a little goofy too (sorry Steve, but anyone who knows you, might agree with me). Loving family and parents! Great friends!Terrific weather. And last but not least, chocolate covered strawberries!

What a great wedding! Very easy to tell the story of this wedding day with these photos. I had a great time at this wedding. I was also fortunate enough to be joined by Alvin, Seini, and Corinna at this wedding shoot! They are all very talented photographers, and I was happy they could make it and that I could work alongside with them!

I think the only thing that would have made this even more of a fairytale wedding, was if the "Utah Jazz" would have played better in the playoffs (please see the jerseys their wearing as they're making their getaway)! Everything was beautiful and wonderful none the less!

Our good friends, Fili and Pania Sagapolutele, are truly amazing people with 2 beautiful children, as well as all of these other kids in the UPI Dance Group! Is it fair for so much talent to come from one little family?

For the past several years, they have been teaching Polynesian dance to the youth, and a few adults here in the Utah County area. They have shared the culture, and traditions of the Islands, and helped many to fall in love with it.

I was fortunate that they asked me to take photos at their most recent recital, and it was awesome! These kids were very well prepared and very disciplined. Everything was perfect and it really was a joy to watch. I think one of the biggest benefits for me when I get to photograph these types of events, is that I get the best seat in the house!

Well, I'm not sure if it's been decided or not, but this may have been the last recital for the UPI dance group. Congratulations to Fili for recently graduating BYU Law School. He has so many great things ahead, and they were unsure if they would be able to keep up the school. I know many are hoping and praying that they do.

Thank you Fili and Pania for sharing your talent, culture and love with all of us and for teaching the youth! You're great role models for all of us on how to be great people. You're also great examples of hard work, higher education, and reaching for your goals! Good luck in everything that life has in store for you!

Back in the day...

OK, so about 13 years ago, before I moved to Utah, I worked here. It's the Polynesian Resort at Disney World. Even before I ever worked there, I kinda grew up there. My dad has been a musician there ever since I was really young, so my little sister and I would go to the show all the time. A lot has changed since I've been gone. All new dancers, but some of the same dances. It's always fun to go see the show.

Anyways, I worked there for about a year and half, but not as a dancer or musician. I was actually a photographer at the luau show. Crazy, I know, but I was just never the dancer type, and you have to be super good to be a musician there. They actually have the same musicians there from 20+ years ago. Those guys have it made. They get paid great, and all they have to do is play music and sing. That's why they've been there so long. Who would give that up? I'd love a job like that!

Anyways, we always visit when we take a trip home. I took a chance to take some photos at the show. It's nice to take photos with good stage lighting, and good looking people. Not much work involved on my part. Just snap away!

Well, now you know a little more about my past, and a little bit of my photography background! Still learning and growing everyday, and that's why I love it!

Pretty handsome guy! Blake is graduating from Timpview this year and he is an amazing young man. Lettered on the HS State Champion Football Team (T-Birds for life), but he is definitely not the typical jock. I knew one of his high school teachers, and she always had great things to say about him. She said he is a "Sharp guy", not only in his dress, but his mind as well!

Blake is a man with some hidden talents. So hidden that his mom never knew. Out of no where this guys shows everyone that he likes to sing, and he is really good at it! Good looks, atheletic, braniac... is there anything this guy can't do!?

Well, congrats Blake! Good luck at BYU! I know your parents are gonna hate wearing the Blue and White since they're hardcore Ute Fans (BOOO!) LOL! We're all proud of you!

Toa is one of those guys you just like to be around! He's a graduating Senior from Timpanogas HS, and as excited as he might be, his mom is just not ready for it! I know she's happy for her son, but she feels like he's just growing up too fast! Toa has really great parents and it shows!

A couple words I would use to describe Toa. Fun, Talented, Hard-Working, Loyal, and Trustworthy! In the past year and a half of knowing him, I've seen so much growth. We've had some good times just hanging out, and talking. He's my Burger King pal! We like to just sneak away and get a Whopper Jr. sometimes.

Anyways, I'm so happy for Toa and his family. Next big step in life is coming up quickly in the fall. Congratulations Toa, and good luck with everything in life!

How lucky am I?

On a recent photo shoot with these 3 lovely sisters, I realized how lucky I really am to be able to do what I love! We had so much fun! We probably spent more time laughing then anything else.

I knew two of these sisters when I was a teenager in Florida. They lived there for a little while and we were in youth together at church. We've recently reconnected thanks to the miracle we all call "Facebook"! Time has treated these sisters very well. We haven't seen each other for over 15 years, but I swear they still look the same!

Well, these sisters contacted me about a "Sister Shoot". I thought it was a fun idea, but I had no idea of the fun that I was in for. Seriously, hanging off the bars like a monkey? LOL! Anyways, I'm so happy to share their photos!

Where do people from Hawaii go on vacation? They come to Utah! Sound crazy? Not to these two! We had such a great time at our photo shoot! Vania and Sio were probably the most laid back couple I've taken photographs of in a long time! It's not that I always have crazy people, but you could really feel that laid back island vibe from these two!

Vania wanted to come and visit family and old friends here at BYU and she contacted me about a possible photo session. She mentioned that the only photos that she and her husband have together are one's where their arms are outstretched and taking it of themselves. I had to laugh a little because I see those all the time! :)

Anyways, these two are back in Hawaii enjoying the warmth while we're here having to live with snow in winter! What's up with the weather?

Jamie & Chad's Wedding!

What a perfect day (except for the cold, rain, and a little snow)! Jamie and Chad were a great looking couple, and they look so happy! I love taking photos when it's overcast outside, but it was a little windy too, but Jamie was a trooper. She said she didn't mind the bad weather so I went with it! Isn't she a beautiful bride? You would never know that it was about 30 degrees outside and wet!

The location for the reception was perfect too! I really had a wonderful time taking their photos! I actually had too many photos to choose from to post on the blog. I guess it's a good problem to have? Anyways, I loved this amazing wedding!

Well last weekend, Jeane went on a group photo shoot with Omi. Omi is a friend and fellow photographer who does some amazing work. Above and beyond that, she is an amazing person who is always willing to share her talents and wants to help everyone find their unique talents, and their own abilities with photography. She really is an inspiring person to be around.

Jeane has been looking forward to this group photo shoot for a few months now, and even though it was a little wet, and cold on the day of the shoot, nothing would keep her from going. Jeane doesn't like to drive to places she doesn't know, so she asked if I would drive her to the shoot. I originally planned to drop her off, and go looking at the stores somewhere else, because I knew there would be mostly women in the group. I also wanted this to be more of her own thing.

Well, she talked me in to sticking around and tagging along. She said the camera bag was too heavy, and since she's pregnant, I needed to help her ;)! Anyways, I was greatful that Sepa talked Kalani in to sticking around too. The whole time there, I just watched my wife go to town, and do her thing, but from time to time, I would make sure she was checking her light settings, and look at her photos. I was kind of like a protective parent watching their child's soccer game or something. It was fun to watch her and all these other ladies work!

It was so nice to meet some amazing people in the group! There is something about being around people who share the same passions and interests as you do! We had dinner at "Iggy's" after the shoot and it was so fun! A lot of great conversation, and more learning!

Well, thank you Omi for sharing your talents, and your wealth of knowledge. Thank you to the group for making it so fun, and letting me tag along! I'm looking forward to seeing the photos for the contest. I swear I did not help Jeane edit her photo entry. She spent the whole day working on it, and looking at it from every angle possible, and asking me a hundred times to look at it again, and again! LOL! I did tell her which one I liked, and she took it from there.

Extended Family!

This is just a quick peek to share a few photos of this extended family photo shoot! It was Great-Grandma's 80th birthday and they threw a great birthday bash for her! How FUN!!

This family photo shoot had the makings for a hectic shoot! 9 different families, 15 kids under the age of 10, and 45 people in all! I can honestly say I was incredibly surprised by how smoothly it went. The kids were so ready for photos! They had the cutest clothes on with some awesome colors. And this whole family had it all together. Schedule was perfectly organized and each family was right on time for their turn!

I had a fantastic time with this family! I have so many more photos to post, but I wanted to get a few of these up so you can see some of these cute great grand kids, and the great grandmother!

Trips to LA!

We're shooting a couple weddings this summer in LA, but we have some time to fit in a few extra sessions. We'll be in LA from June 4th-8th, and July 9th-13th! We're heading to Orlando at the end of this month, and we're all booked up! Sorry! We had to make sure we had some time to visit Mickey too!

I've been so busy with life and everything else other than photography for the past week! I had my family in town, and other events, and the weather has been bad so we've had to postpone a couple photo shoots!

This week will be very busy, so I'll have a lot of work to catch up on and share. I'm sorry that I haven't been a good blogger lately, but I'll make up for it this week!!

I'm thinking about doing a drawing soon, but I'm trying to figure out what to give away. Stay tuned and find out!!

Meet the lovely ladies (and guy) of LB Hunt Management Group. They contacted me a little while back about updating their photos for their website. We me in the Downtown Salt Lake area, and we had the best time. They found a fun little office building with some fun colors.

As soon as we got there I knew we would have a great time. It must be a lot of fun to work in their office, because in the short amount of time I spent with them, I had a blast! I really enjoyed working with them. It's really nice to work with cooperative models, that do exactly what you tell them to do, and hold absolutely still! Makes for easy work, and a great time!

Thanks for the wonderful shoot ladies. Sorry Clay, I keep leaving you out. It was easy and great to work with you too. I may be using your location again in the near future!

Brooke and Kahili are engaged to be married in July! She's a BYU volleyball player from Cali, and he's a BYU student, who likes to play volleyball, from Hawaii. Needless to say, they're both great looking, and I had a great time taking their photos!

We went to the BYU campus (how appropriate!), and had a blast! It's so fun to watch "young love" in action. Look forward to their wedding photos in July!!

Strength and Wisdom Part II

I didn't share this in my original post about Lisa and Todd. I wanted to respect her wishes and her privacy, but she just gave me permission to share her story, and I think it's a very important one at that.

A few weeks ago when Lisa originally contacted me about taking their photos, I was so excited to hear from her. As a I read a little further down the email, she shared with me that the pictures would have even more special meaning because she had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. After my initial shock and sadness for my friend, I realized that there is always hope, and as long as I have known Lisa, she has been a strong willed individual. If anyone could beat cancer, it would be Lisa! It also made me think of my own father, who has been a cancer survivor for about 20 years now. The typical life expectancy with the type of bone cancer my dad has is about 3 years. I have plenty of reason to believe that with the right treatments, attitude, and courage, Lisa has her whole life ahead of her!

A day before the photo shoot, I contacted Lisa again to finalize the plans. We were gonna play it by ear, just wanting to make sure that the weather was going to cooperate. Lisa had another examination since our first contact, and she told me that they also found out that she has Bone Cancer, and she is Stage 4 at this point. That sounded really bad to me, but Lisa still sounded upbeat and positive about the whole situation. I thought that was amazing.

I sat at the computer for a little while and cried as I thought about it. I couldn't help but think of my wife, and family. What would I do if we faced the same circumstances. Would we be able to be as brave and strong. After those thoughts, I started to feel a little pressure about the photo shoot. These photos would have a lot of meaning to Lisa and Todd. Will I be able to capture the spirit of hope and love that Lisa was looking for. I then started to feel very honored that Lisa trusted me, and asked me to do such an important photo shoot for her.

Well, I had such a great time with Lisa and Todd. We were able to talk a little about everything, and I can say that they have such a great attitude towards it. Todd said there's no reason to lay down and cry about it. You have to do everything you can and fight. Keep smiling, and try to be as positive as possible. I know Lisa can beat this.

Thanks Lisa and Todd for your great examples. Our family prays for you and we're here for whatever you need! You two are awesome!

Strength and Wisdom

I've known Lisa for quite a long time now, and ever since I've known her her, she's been an example of strength and wisdom! I just met her new husband Todd, and he seems like such a great guy. I know he treats her very well, and they seem so happy together.

Lisa called me about taking photos for their 1 year anniversary coming up, and I was excited to do it! We had some good luck with the weather and and it was a really fun time. You can't ask for more than that!

Individual Worth!

What a great idea! Tini, one of the YW leaders in our ward over the beehive age (12-13 yr olds) girls, asked my wife and I for some help. The theme for her young women this month is "Individual Worth". She wanted her girls to have some nice headshots done for their own little portfolios that their putting together.

I thought it was such a fun idea, and we were happy to help! It was a simple photoshoot. We just met at the park. It was a little chilly so thanks for the Hot Chocolate girls. It really helped! We spent just a little time with each individual girl, and had a great time! It was really neat to see how each of these girls have their own personalities, and things they like. My wife loves the YW program, and is looking forward to one day being able to work with them.

I am happy that we were able to help with such a fun project. Thanks for asking us Tini. We love your young women, and we appreciate all you do for the youth in our ward!

For any aspiring photographers!

I have recently upgraded some of my equipment and I am selling some of my equipment that I've used primarily as a backup.

The D50 DSLR is still available that I listed a little while back. That's going for $500. It includes an 18-55mm lens. I'm also including tons of extras, 1GB memory card, Nikon Pro photo bag. All cords and accessories included.

I'm also selling the lens pictured above. Mind you that these are stock photos, but all my equipment has been babied, and is in excellent condition. This lens is a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8. It is very fast and has produced most of the images you see on my photo blog! It's been mounted with a UV filter since day 1 to protect the glass. It's also been my walk around lens for all the weddings I have shot. I love the lens, but I really wanted a new one, that I've finally saved up enough for. I've owned this lens for about a year, and I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't have the budget to buy those lenses that cost over $1000.00. This lens compares to the Nikon Brand with the same Focal and F/stop range that is selling for about $1700 on BHPhoto.com... Check here

Simple, Raw and Amazing!

I was invited to take photos at an Open Mic event last weekend by Jake Kongaika(Cubworld) up in the Salt Lake area. I was excited to hear some good music and get some great photos. I just have to say that all of my expectations were exceeded beyond belief!

I'm used to hearing the typical "Polynesian" style of music. I expected to hear some R&B, some Reggae, and other types that I'm used to. I was not expecting what I heard. It was nice to hear our people branching out with all these different styles of music. It was refreshing to see pure, raw talent. It was so simple, but it amazed me just the same.

No "Rock star" atmosphere. Just a simple setting, with real people, and great music. I would listen to a CD with all the music I heard that night. It made me appreciate music so much more!

I rarely work in black and white photos. I used to love it, but I've fallen in love with colors. As I was editing these photos, I felt like they should be in black and white. I wanted to share them in the simplest form. No distractions. I just wanted to show the pure passion and joy I saw in each of those who shared their original songs or covers. I'm grateful to have been invited, and I look forward to seeing and hearing more from each of these great people!

Remodeling!

Elegance, style, class and beauty to match!

I've been very fortunate to meet some wonderful brides over time, and I just needed to make note of how great it was to meet Melanie and Tally, and to photograph their wedding! The wedding was so beautiful, but I was even more impressed with the bride.

The reason I say this is because I watch people while I'm at receptions, and I like to see how they interact. I am almost always within 20ft of the bride because I love to tell the story of "her" day. I know the groom is involved, but we all know whose day this is! LOL!

I admired how Melanie interacted with all of the guests at the wedding. Whether she knew them or was meeting them for the first time, she seemed to engage in genuine conversation, and expressed real gratitude to each of them for attending!

I was also impressed with how the bride and groom were involved in service activities in South America. It's really neat to actually meet people who do these types of things. Working with people who are so good looking, and seeing that they aren't afraid to get down and dirty, is rare treat! I had a wonderful time photographing this wedding, and I was able to try a few different things with my photography. It always makes my job easier to work with a very photogenic couple!
